History of SCAN-SHIPPING

BMC AS was founded in Denmark in 1987, and the primary business area is the production and sale of building materials for the Scandinavian market.

Scan-Shipping Bergen was founded with two employees in 2002 to handle BMC’s logistics at sea. With these volumes as a basis, a shipping line was established from Eemshaven in Holland via Denmark to Norway, with opportunities to also expand the line network and operate ship brokerage.

The sideport ship “Scan Fjell” was leased to T/C at the end of 2002, and important southbound cargoes to the UK and the continent were quickly put in place, with customers who are still served more than 20 years later.

During the first years, Scan-Shipping Bergen connected with several shipowners and acquired a solid fleet of side port ships which were chartered on European routes and in the Baltic Sea.

Development on the Baltic gained momentum when Caten Shipping joined the fleet with three ships.

In the same period, Scan-Shipping Bergen also became part owner of several ships. In addition to a large customer base on the line side and its own shipbroker business, the company developed a long-term collaboration with major industrial customers, such as Hydro Aluminium, Elkem, Yara and Glencore. Stability and long-term horizons along with renewal and development have always been a driving force for Scan-Shipping Bergen.

In 2021 Tormod Gotteberg came in as managing director, and today the company has more than 10 employees. Scan-Shipping Bergen has ownership interests in a total of 11 ships that transport goods on all the world’s oceans.
